A scientific and comprehensive oil palm research and breeding program began in Lobe in 1948 for selection to improve yield and testing for wilt resistance initiated by Unilever Plc, an Anglo-Saxon group.

PAMOL runs a wide ranging and private driven Oil Palm Research Program to produce improved planting materials through breeding and conducts research in the areas of crop protection and agronomy to maximize the yields of the planting materials produced and provide advisory services to the company and third parties.

Also, the Research Department is open for partnership with State and non-State research institutions, and international organizations to improve crop yields; to foster agricultural development and sustainability; and to promote capacity building programs respectively.
